Common Core Digital Resources

How did I not know about OpenEd.io?

This searchable database hosts over a quarter million different K-12 Common Core aligned videos, games, and activities. And it's free! No need to even sign up, unless you want to create and store your playlists, which can be shared with students and colleagues with a link.  Just start searching by grade level, common core standard or keyword to find MANY aligned videos, activities and games.  Students are required to use multimedia tools to meet current Common Core Standards across all subjects.  Here is a resource to help you find digital resources that enhance student learning.

How Can I Use OpenEd.io to support diverse learners?
-Introduction to new material
-Review/support for previously taught content
-Place videos and games in Symbaloo for student practice, exploration and choice
-Test Review Materials
-Flipped Video Homework
-View Connection to real world scenarios
-Show more than one video/technique to solve same problem
-Model taking notes of key ideas in video to promote finding theme and making big inferences on own

Why should I include digital media as a tool for student learning?
1.  It is a natural and authentic part of their environment outside of school
2.  Student choice of carefully selected media can help students construct meaning themselves, instead of direct instruction by the teacher that simply tells and shows learners the answers
3.  Digital media uses diverse vocabulary to explain similar content, exposing students to vocabulary they might not have heard otherwise
4. It is always available online, therefore the learning day can be extended beyond school hours when digital media is assigned for homework or used while teacher is working with students in other groups
5.  Digital media supports differentiation; create/select videos on various levels/topics based on level and interest to reach the same objective
